What is PFLAG?

Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians & Gays (PFLAG) is a national non-profit organization with over 250,000 members and supporters and more than 490 chapters, state councils and affiliates in the United States. This vast grassroots network is cultivated, resourced and serviced by the PFLAG national office, located in Washington, DC, the national Board of Directors and 14 Regional Directors.

We are an independent, affiliated chapter of the national organization.  PFLAG York is a non-profit, income tax exempt organization.  PFLAG York shares the vision and mission of the national organization, and through our generous volunteers, works towards achieving and fulfilling both.  We offer:

History of PFLAG

PFLAG was founded in 1981 by 25 parents and now represents more than 80,000 members and speaks for thousands of others.  PFLAG affiliates are located in over 485 communities in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and eleven other countries.  PFLAG is not affiliated with any ethnic, religious, economic or political group.  Our purpose is to provide confidential help to families and friends to understand sexual orientation and gender identity while helping to raise awareness and acceptance.

Thanks to Pat and Judy!

PFLAG York was started in March of 1994 by Pat Brandl and Judy Morreels.  We owe them our thanks for realizing the need to have a chapter in York.  See the History of PFLAG York on the About US Page.

We love our gay children!
